MEMORANDUM FOR SEE DISTRIBUTION
SUBJECT: Command Philosophy

1. This memorandum outlines my personal command philosophy for the 226 MEB Rear Detachment.
It represents the foundation of my command tenure and provides insight to help unit members understand my focus.

2. As your Commander, I understand it is a great honor and privilege to lead the Soldiers of the HHC 226 MEB Rear Det. My pact with you is that I will devote all of my efforts to ensure that you are highly trained and fit to carry on the storied history of the 226 MEB. Below is what I expect from the Soldiers of the 226 MEB Rear Det.

3. Live by the Army Values on and off duty: Leadership, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.

4. WE ARE A TEAM. We succeed and fail as a team. I expect everyone to treat others fairly, with dignity and respect. Use the Golden Rule, “ Treat others like you want to be treated.” By treating others with respect, it allows for unit cohesion and overall mission success.

5. Take pride in yourself, your work, your unit, the Army, and the Warrior Ethos. Strive for personal and unit growth. Any self-development / training will ultimately lead to versatility and success of the unit and the ability to adapt to any situation.

6. I do not accept mediocrity; every mission should be performed to the Army standards.

7. Being a Soldier is a demanding job. Be sure to challenge yourself mentally and physically on a daily basis. Work hard year round to raise your PT score. Be proud of the fact that you have the ability to do what the average person cannot.

8. Soldiers of the 226 MEB Rear need to have the utmost confidence in their marksmanship abilities. Your survival on the battlefield during combat depends on your skills, knowledge of the Army’s weapon systems and confidence in marksmanship. We will take full advantage of every opportunity to utilize the PMI training and weapon ranges available.

9. There are times in the Army that could create a large amount of stress on you and your family which ultimately could affect personal and unit moral. The company staff, Family Readiness Group, and numerous military resource programs are here for your support in good and bad times. Utilize these programs, they are here for you.

10. To make this company the best it can be, Soldiers need to better themselves and plan for Drill throughout the month. Be prepared to execute the training mission every month to the best of your ability. Have a plan when you arrive at drill on how to carry out your tasks. The company staff will ensure that information is passed down to the lowest level throughout the month to allow ample time to prepare.

11. In closing, I intend to leave this unit better than I found it. I will make every effort to ensure that we efficiently and safely complete every unit mission and continue to build unit cohesion so that we are prepared at all time. I am looking forward to facing the challenges that lie ahead. DON’T QUIT, NEVER GIVE UP!!
